Everything comes with its own terms There are always strings attached Everyone wants something in return From out of struggle a deal is hatched We all know that life is unfair We all know but we remain foursquare These are the human conditions We all try to be altruistic But we are only self-serving at best We all do what little we can Someone else will take care of the rest We all know how just hard it is to change We all know that people are so strange You may be a crazy dictator You may have yourself a TV show You may be a no one at all Eeny, meeny, miny, moe Well we all examine the world Through our own particular lens We pick out just what we need And the rest we try to cleanse We all know our right from our wrong We all know it's one long swan song

Every religion has its own mythology That somehow mirrors our own pathology Most of it is pretty far-fetched and most the truth is stretched But we take it the way it's doled It's salvation bought and sold Uncertainty is an uncomfortable position But certainty is an absurd one Why not celebrate the vastness of our ignorance And be a possibilian Every religion has its own narrative A categorical imperative But little of it makes any sense It hinges on you being dense The blind leading the dumb Might as well suck your thumb We know way too little about our own minds To deny the Lord in all his glory And we know just way too much to stick to Any one particular story Why not revel in possibilities Every religion has its own naysayers The kind of people who make up prayers They are treated with disdain Like something big must be wrong with their brain Why not try an alternative that reflects the way you live

I'm forever at the ready I'm champing at the bit Lived my whole life screaming, This is it Nobody hears me and nobody one cares Who gives two bits about my frivolous affairs All I want is my day in the sun Especially now that my day is nearly done I am all dressed up, I got nowhere to go I wait by the ticking clock and the hands they move so slow Is this the day my ship will come Is this the day I will get me some All I need is a taste of the pie All I need is a little piece of the sky My heart is busted and so is my pride Always the bridegroom and never the bride My dreams are shattered, I’ve been denied Always the bridegroom and never the bride I've lowered my sites, I don't want for much Got no expectations, nothing nonesuch I will take what I'm given, I will take what you got Even if what you got it ain't a lot All I want is to stay afloat All I want is just a little bit of hope I am willing to settle for next to nothing at all I will rob old Peter just to pay old Paul These are desperate times and I'm a desperate man Gotta do anything any way I can I don't care if I look like a fool And I don't care if I break every single rule

My Procedure 04:15
They took me to a white room And they put me on a table They stuck an IV in my arm And said, Are you ready and able I said, Well here goes I guess I have no other choice They said to start counting back from three And then I lost my voice And then I had my procedure Oh yeah, yeah And then I had my procedure Oh yeah, yeah Well I was knocked out For what seemed like the blink of an eye I heard a voice and it called my name But somehow I couldn't reply I was not yet in the room I was still up in my head I wasn't quite alive And I wasn't quite dead And that was my procedure Oh yeah, yeah And that was my procedure Oh yeah, yeah

What was this thing I didn't understand It was such a strange enigma to me I tried so hard to figure it out I searched high and low for a skeleton key And then a light came shining through And I knew exactly what to do I hit it with my hammer and it cracked wide open And all of its junk spilled across the floor I hit it with my hammer and it cracked wide open And a world of wonder it lie in store The words on the box said handle with care But I was never good with following directions And all I wanted was my prize inside Add whatever I could add to my collections And then a light went off in my head This could be the biggest thing since sliced bread Yeah it was everything I ever hoped it would be All my dreams and wishes, all rolled into one Yeah it was everything I ever hoped it would be And I shouted, Hot damn I'm gonna have me some fun Got what I need, I'm a happy clam And there's nothing more I could ever want What lies beyond I will never know It beckons me with a familiar taunt And then a light it shined so bright And I didn't feel alone in the night

Lovesick 05:07
Woe, woe is me I got a sickness At the root of my tree Gotta dig down deep and pull it all out Won't get it all I have no doubt I am love, I am love, I am love I am lovesick Down, down as can be I got a fever And it bleeds through me Gotta blow it all, blow it all to bits Gotta shout it out Gotta shout it out And call it quits Lost, lost to this world My knees are weak And my guts they churn Gotta stand up Gotta stand up the best I can Gotta take my final turn

When you're going down, you're going down You're going down, down, down, down The world it stings, the devil sings You're going down, down, down, down You get kicked in the teeth Ow, ow, ow, ow You get punched underneath Ow, ow, ow, ow Well it's Jiggery pokery, jiggery pokery Lie, lie, lie, lie Jiggery pokery, jiggery pokery Why, why, why, why When you need to know, you need to know, know You need to know, know, know, know But a black wind blows A black wind blows and it blows and blows Blows and blows You get punched in the guts Ow, ow, ow, ow You look like a klutz Ow, ow, ow, ow When the hurt cuts through, the hurt cuts through It cuts through, through, through, through You get ripped apart It breaks your heart Your old heart, heart, heart, heart You get kicked in the ass Ow, ow, ow, ow And you shatter like glass Ow, ow, ow, ow

He went down a road From which he didn't come back He lost control and it all went black He did not foresee just what was in store He was here one minute and then no more There's no good reason No wisdom can explain There's just those left behind in a world of pain Gone too soon, too soon gone He drove his car right into a tree Just like every single other highway tragedy He lived to drive, he lived to drive fast Would he have thought That this drive was his last Why did it happen, we won't ever know We're left to imagine how he took the final blow One minute you're here and then you are dust If you try to grasp it you will be nonplussed

Fat, drunk and stupid Ain't no way to go through life, son Fat, drunk and stupid Ain't no way to get the job done You think you're king of the kingdom You think your life will go on this way You think that nothing can touch you Sitting up there on Santa's sleigh You think you are so amazing And all you touch will turn to gold You think that you are so special And you will never, never ever grow old You think you have some say-so You think you got a clue You think you know better, brother You think the world revolves around you

Here it comes, blowin' smoke Straight to your town Full of piss, full of steam Gonna run you down Black as hell, big as shit Scary as a beast Never stops, juggernaut This movable feast Shake that chain it's the history train Going down, going down, down Like a hurricane, the history train Going down, going down, down Thunder crack, lightning bolt Makes a big ol' noise Mothers weep, soldiers march Coming in convoys Rappers shout, rabies scream All gone in a wink Pots and pans, arms and legs The whole kitchen sink You can close all your curtains And silence your clocks But outside your window It circles like a hawk Here it comes. It is coming to you Here it comes and there's nothing you can do Angry words in an angry time What will we remember, what will we forget When the story is written just how will it look Will it be a future of regret

Got my things all packed away Turned off the radio Took one last look around And told myself I'm ready to go I was born a long, long way From where I'm wanna be And now I'm, I'm on my way I'm on my back way home Got my ticket in my hand The train is almost here A wind blows my at my back My eyes let go a tear Scenes go floating by Like something from a dream And I let go a laugh This is not just what it seems

about

"It is a big temptation to me, when I create a character for a novel, to say that he is what he is because of faulty wiring, or because of microscopic amounts of chemicals which he ate or failed to eat on that particular day." ―Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
