There was a time When all the world When all the world it really got to me There was a time When so many things When so many things they meant a lot to me But then it got Got to be all too much And it started to wear Wear me out And all my values and all my dreams They were cast in doubt And I said, I shall not be moved There was a a time When all I did When all I did was preach the good word There was a a time When it mattered not When it mattered not if I got heard But then it got Got to be all too bleak And I started to lose my way And from the point on my black and white world Well it blurred into gray Nothing you say and nothing you do Is gonna get to me I stand apart Stand apart Stand apart from thee

He likes to wear his trusty Dockers And his Member's Only coat When it comes to fashion sense He sort of missed the boat Not good, not bad, average He likes to mow his own lawn He likes his house in the 'burbs He has an ideology That nothing disturbs Not good, not bad, average He likes his eggs over easy With toast with grape jelly He doesn't even try anymore To hide his middle-age belly Not good, not bad, average He likes to drive his SUV And he cranks up the heavy metal If someone dares to cut him off He just slams on the gas pedal Not good, not bad, average He likes to eye the teenage girls They bring to mind his lost youth But when it comes to seeing himself He'd rather ignore the truth Not good, not bad, average

It could have been an ordinary morning Just like the one that had come before But for some reason it felt different to you Your feet felt strange when they hit the floor You thought about your mom And the love she'd never shown You felt alone No explanation given, no reason known You opened up the toy box in the corner A GI Joe and a red plastic truck You took them out smashed them all to pieces You contemplated your lousy luck You thought about your friends And how they seem so grown You felt alone No explanation given, no reason known It is not enough to say that nothing can be done Not until you've tried everything under the sun It could have been an ordinary afternoon But it did not turn out that way What went on inside your troubled head Who can ever say You took those lives into your hands And then you took your own Dead as a stone No explanation given, no reason known

He lives in apartment seven two six Rarely see him come and go Like everyone else around here He’s from China Never once did he ever say hello He would set his dinner on fire every fucking night Then he would vent it out his front door He would set off the building’s fire alarm Dude has a lot to answer for Never knew his name Never knew his name Doesn’t matter one or the other They all look and act the same Never knew his name Everyone wants the American Dream And they’ll do anything to obtain it They’ll say it adds to the diversity Yeah that’s how they like to explain it But they’re not interested in who or what you are They only want what you got And once they move into your neighborhood It’ll go from a trickle to an onslaught So one day this dude he moves out And he leaves behind a pile of shit And by shit I mean it quite literally With a stink that just won’t quit The sink is piled high with dishes A testament to what’s his name Someone else can just clean it up Obviously he has no shame

Well I came here out of nowhere A bolt of lightning in the dark I stuck around for awhile, I did it on a lark And when I felt I'd seen enough I put in my two cents These are the memoirs of a man Not sitting on the fence Well I got out on the TV, I got on the radio I beat my chest like an angry ape Said, I won't go with the flow I spoke out loud and clearly Spoke in a way you could understand These are the memoirs of a visible man Well I said things controversial about all the minorities About how they were taking over Didn't care who disagrees Some people called me obnoxious But I knew I was in the right These are the memoirs of a man Who's ready to fight I kicked up quite a ruckus, I caused quite a storm People sent me death threats My image wasn't fuzzy and warm I turned up the heat, had a master plan These are the memoirs of a visible man You can say that you don't like me You can say all you can say But I am sticking to my guns, I won't go away And if you do bump me off Someone like me is standing nearby These are the memoirs of a man who just won't die Well I came out of nowhere but I have left my mark Some would rather call it a stain Let them all be eaten by a shark I raised my voice, shouted out across the land These are the memoirs of a visible man

We pass each other Out on the street And we don't bat an eye At everyone we meet I am nothing No shape or form Swat me like a fly You don't know me Never did I was never here No hellos and no goodbyes I was never here Was never here We live like strangers In a strange old world We don't make a connection You come first I come last Just like natural selection
7.
Once you lie to me we're done We're done It only takes one lie Just one You may think I'm way too hard But trust me I've been burned And if I go against my guts Then it's like nothing has been learned Are we OK You want us to be We're not OK It's a tragedy What in holy hell do you want What in holy hell do you want from me You may think that I'm just being ridiculous But that is part of the deal My little miss You want me to be easy And just make nice and go along But all that I am Says you're wrong, you're wrong Won't I just play your game I can't play your game Won't I pretend we're still the same We're not the same Things that you have said sound suspect Just the way that you so skillfully misdirect No surprise when I caught you In the middle of a big fat fib Just the way that you talk it's so smooth And so cool and so glib

Once upon a time It was all shiny and new And everyone oohed and aahed But as time went by The shine wore off To reveal a decaying facade And then it was kicked to the curb Tossed out with the trash It was kicked to curb Gone, gone, gone with a flash Once upon a time It held a lot of promise But then the promise never got fulfilled And bit by bit It all fell apart What was willing got unwilled Once up a time It was all about the future But now the future is all but in the past No one thinks about it Gives it a second thought Yeah nothing is built to last
9.
If you wake up feeling no pain You know that you are dead Better that you feel something bad Than feel nothing like Dylan said In some ways the pain is good for you It puts your gear box into drive With all these dead souls wandering around At least you know you are alive Grief is a humble angel Who gives you strength to carry it on Depression is a demon Who leaves you quartered and drawn Grief is a humble angel Who gives you comfort and gives you hope Depression is a demon Who leaves you at the end your rope When the world leaves you brokenhearted With its cruelty and its hate You can either hide inside your darkened room Or you can try to break down the gate You can see your pain as a useful tool To express what's deep inside Either way that you choose to live In the end you can't run and hide It wearies me; you say it wearies you
But how I caught it, found it, or came by it
What stuff 'tis made of, whereof it is born
I am to learn
And such a want-wit sadness makes of me
That I have much ado to know myself

Can't breathe in here Can't catch my breath Getting pushed and shoved Till I have no depth Someone's above me Someone's below Shoving me out Nowhere to go Getting mighty crowded Getting mighty crowded in here Getting mighty crowded Watch me disappear Feeling pretty cramped Feeling pretty squeezed Ain't got no money My assets freezed No room for me Down at the inn Punched in the guts Slapped on the chin Show me some mercy Give me an assist Open up your hand Unball your fist You got the power And I got squat Lord it over me Like a twat No place to go No place to hide You hollowed me out From the inside

He's got a face only his own mother would love No, no one else could really care He wears a suit two sizes to small for his frame Don't ask me 'bout his funky hair The only time anyone ever sees him Is when they poke fun at his goofy look They might say, "What's the deal with that lame-ass guy Why is he a lame-ass schnook" So what if he is What you gonna do about it He works his job like he's supposed to Never questions nothing that he's told He's been doing it for twenty-long years Doing it for so long that now he's old Yeah, he got old He is the forgotten man It is his one and only claim to fame He is the forgotten man Who can remember what's his name Every day it's he eats the same old thing for lunch Ham on white with dash of mustard Sometimes he dreams about changing his life But most of the time he's just flustered He'd like to go off on a vacation Maybe visit some exotic ports of call But every time he asks for a little time off His boss says, "You've got lots of gall Whaddya think this is, some kind of charity" What's his name Well I know you forgotten man I see you forgotten man I won't forget you forgotten man This is for you

Everyone's in bed, most are fast asleep As still as a painting, not counting their sheep Nothing's gonna move them or wake them from their snoring Night has fallen down, the day has slipped its mooring All quiet on the eastern front All quiet on the eastern front We're all asleep now We're all asleep There's a little girl, propped up in her bed She's reading a book, thoughts fill her head "What will become of me and how will I survive Is it just enough to be completely alive" Don't bother to wake us At half past never Don't bother to wake us We are out forever There's a little boy, he's staring into space He is wishing on a star, dreaming of a different place How will he get there, he can't really say And though he's feeling frightened He wants to be on his way
