It may not seem like it but this really good for you It's good for your mind and good for your heart It may not look like it but this will help you out Take your prosaic life and make it a work of art This might sting a bit But I believe it's gonna do you good This might sting a bit Just so I'm not misunderstood It may not seem like it but you're on the right path Just keep on going further up ahead It may not endow you with a sense of self-confidence But I believe that very soon you will see the thread It may not seem like it but this is gonna change your life Just got to get past your initial fears It may not look like it but this could save your soul It's one of those things that isn't quite what it appears

Well I spent my summer dancing And having a good time Didn't care about the perils of improvidence I drank and smoked and squandered all the last of my supplies Didn't listen to the ant And his wise common sense "Why you work so hard, dear ant Come and rest awhile Summer's here and the days are long and warm" "I'm saving up, dear grasshopper For the dark times ahead I'm preparing myself for the winter's storm" And now I'm up shits creek without a paddle Can someone come to my rescue I am up shits creek without a paddle All the good times are done and through Well I thought the ant was foolish For wasting all his time Toiling away while I drown my sorrows Life is for living Living in the now Ain't no sense in worrying about your tomorrows "Where are you going with all them heavy things" "I'm saving up and you should do the same" "Why not sing with me instead of working hard" "When the winter comes you're gonna have no one to blame" Well the winter came and brought with it A ton of sleet and snow And me, well I got left out in cold I look back on all those hazy, crazy summer days And I wish I did what I'd been told "Can you spare some food, dear ant Just a crumb or two Just a crumb or two and I'll skedaddle" "Well it's too bad for you, grasshopper That you're ill-prepared Now you're up shits creek and you ain't got no paddle"

I travel the world I take it all in I take lots pictures of all the places I've been Here is the Taj Mahal Here is Stonehenge I have lots of stories I won't bore you to tears Yes, I've gone lots of places over the years They say I am one poor correspondent They say I am too, too hard to find But you can find me I am no mere tourist Don't wear Bermuda shorts Don't have a fanny pack or lodge at family resorts Paddled down the Amazon Stayed in strange ports Caught myself diphtheria Caught myself some typhoid Swatted off tsetse flies they're a must to avoid It's a great big world And I go it alone Don't got no internet Don't got no phone I've seen the seven wonders and crossed the seven seas Went to the wailing wall Got down on my knees Camped in the redwoods under redwood trees I've stayed in hostels Lived on the cheap But when I lay down at night I dream you in my sleep

How can I tell what's true Leave it up to experts like you You know what is real Tell me what's the real deal It's an inspired fake For goodness sake Make no mistake It's an inspired fake I can count on you You always come through Teach me 'bout the finer stuff Like what is substance and what is fluff And when I want to know the answer You're my very own internet You tell my what's a long shot And what is my best bet One day I was stumped Like the whole world had got me trumped I turned to my personal god Found out you were a fraud

I knew a girl She was on top of the world You could say that she had it going on She'd say Hey, hey, hey get out of my way She looked at you like you were a pawn Then one day, well, she got killed Someone somewhere got their wish fulfilled Schadenfreude I knew a boy He was so full of joy So much so it made you want to puke He bought and sold Turned his trash into gold You thought it was some sort of fluke Then one day, well, his house burned down I don't recall anyone giving up a frown It's not like I get off on other people's troubles Please don't think of me as a misanthropic dude Sometimes it's nice when the world evens out And I'm not the only one who gets screwed Once was a king The king of everything He didn't give a shit how his people suffered He lived high on the hog Treated his servant like a dog Yes he had himself pretty well buffered One day, well, he choked to death on a bone Across the land a big old party was thrown

I got into my car and I hit the gas And I vowed that I would never look back I drove out of my town just as fast as I could Out to where the wild blue turns black I turned a corner but I did not see What was 'round the bend And I will never be the same I will never be the same I will never be the same again I got horribly lost and I went out of my mind There was nothing I could recognize I got out of my car and I ran every which way But that proved to be extremely unwise All the people standing 'round Didn't make a single sound When I asked them for some simple directions "What's the name of this place Can you tell me to my face Can you please help me to make some connections" I got back in my car and I hit the gas And I headed off into the unknown I felt strangely good and I understood That in this life I am on my own

Samantha chose to disappear She left no forwarding address She left it up to rest of us To clean her filthy mess She had so much going for her But she didn't seem to care What she had in mind we'll never know Her mind was as blank as her stare She was strange Strange She was strange Strange We can't know her No we can't know her Roger woke up in a quandary He decided to change his life He didn't like the sound of his own voice Or the look of his ugly wife He took a knife and he cut her up And he cut himself up too When the detectives arrived on the scene They didn't have a clue He was strange Strange He was strange Strange We can't know him No we can't know him We are strange Strange We are strange Strange We can't know what we can't know

We have our teeny tiny universe And we keep it hid We will never let go of each other God forbid It's just you and me till the end of time Just you and me kid Oh-oh let me whisper sweet somethings In your tiny ear Oh-oh let me whisper sweet somethings For you and me to hear If you ever feel scared or blue You can hold my hand If you ever got a story to tell I will try to understand If you ever get caught in a flood I will be your dry land Don't let it Don't let that sound scare you There's nothing under the bed Don't let it Don't let that sound scare you You won't wake the dead Don't let it Don't let that sound scare you There's no need to be afraid Don't let it Don't let that sound scare you I will come to your aid

Well there ain't no internal logic here No semblance of sense Things are suddenly small And then they are suddenly immense It's all drink me and eat me And you will shrink then grow You might drown in a pool of tears And be as dead as a dodo Curiouser and curiouser This landscape of your soul As you tumble down, down, down the rabbit hole Down, down, down the rabbit hole "Well who are you," the caterpillar asks As he takes a toke from his pipe "Why don't you have a slice of my 'shroom My little guttersnipe One bite will make you taller And one will make you shrink It's up to you what you want to do Don't matter what I think" Well the Queen of Hearts is hard to please Wants white roses painted red Just the slightest indiscretion And she screams, "Off with his head" Reminds of a boss I once had Who picked on my every flaw Life inside his rabbit hole had no good rule of law

The train lurched along the dirty old tracks Filled with dirty people with dirty old sacks All of their dreams were about to take shape And they sang Come on, come on, come on Come on, come on, come on It's the great escape The train gathered speed as it moved on ahead It was bound for glory, at least that's what they said Well you can come and join us if ain't no demimonde They sang Here comes, here comes, here comes Here comes, here comes, here comes The great beyond There will be good times when we reach our destination It will be like a life on permanent vacation There is no freakin' bureaucracy, there is no red tape So come on, come on, come on Come on, come on, come on It's the great escape

“Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.” ―Anaïs Nin
