On a Holiday 04:21
Well I need a little time To sort myself out right Get my hands on a good idea And watch it take flight Well I just want to soar Give me more, more, more I want to go on a holiday Go on a holiday I want to go on a holiday Take me away I want to do something new Something different than before But how do I break on though When my feet are nailed to the floor I want to disappear To a place where I have no fear I would like to see the Vatican Then pop on over to gay Paris I would like kiss the Queen Mother Then go to the bottom of the deepest sea Then when I head home I can say that I've had enough for me I want to scale a new height Don't want to do the same old thing I want to reach down in my soul And see what bells I can ring I don't want to give in Even though the ice is thin
3.
Ess-Rah-El 06:24
Ess-rah-el Ess-rah-el Nothing changes Nothing changes Been going for a million years Through all the hate and all the fears Crying out about a billion tears Save our souls Well we never get what we need We've got no blood in us to bleed We are the last of a dying breed Won't you save our souls We fight for every last tooth and nail Our freedom is not up for sale Listen to our children wail Save our souls Well we have been beaten and broke But we are not your average folk We're here till final word gets spoke Save our souls

I see you standing by the side of the road A map is in your hand Perhaps you wonder if you've gotten lost And that was not what you planned Me I'm standing on the other side I may be kind of lost too But we don't want help each other out That is not what we do This is it, the path we have chosen The road we're riding on No turning back From the path we have chosen This is where we belong I see you picking up all your stuff And start to move along You seem to know just where you're headed And where you want to belong Me I continue to fumble about Not sure of where I want to go Yeah, I could ask what you've decided But I don't really want to know North, south, east, west Any place must be the best South, north, west, east Gotta pick one at the very least A short time later you have moved along Nothing but dust in your wake I have not yet made up my feeble mind Which way would be the best to take Well I feel dumb just standing there As if my feet are stuck or frozen But I accept that at least for me This is the path I have chosen

Travelogue 04:16
I heard a noise Then I saw you there In the weary blue light of dawn Your eyes were gray And your dress was torn You said, "I really don't belong" I said I'd follow you wherever you roam Even the long road home We gathered our stuff And we packed our bags And headed out to the train The wind was cruel Nearly blew us down How we cursed the Memphis rain Where we go who really cares Just that we go is the point Our time is done We've had enough Let's go blow this joint We travelled for weeks To distant lands Where street signs were carved in trees You said this must be it Let's set up camp And you fell down on your knees
6.
You came in a dream Holding a gun Said you wanted to have some kind of supernatural fun Your hair it was black Your teeth they were white You had a tattoo on your back It was Van Gogh's "Starry Night" And you said "I'll take Sweden Or nothing at all I'll take Sweden John, George, Ringo and Paul" And I said, "Huh?" And I said, "What?" And I said, "I don't understand Are you some kind of nut" You were looking for danger And a little romance You wanted a roll in the hay And to see me without my pants We went out drinking Danced the gavotte You looked like Carly Simon On her yacht
7.
Walked down this road alone Came to a place unknown The sun went down and a fog rolled in Where was I Where had I been I got lost a long time ago Where I'm now I don't know Please find me, please find me Before it's too late Came to a sign at the end of the road Scrawled in symbols like some sort of code Had no guide, had no map My arms turned to wings And they started to flap Find me before I drift off for good Nail me down hard, down to the wood And hold me as tight as you can and Tell me I'm your lovin' man I pulled into a tiny motor inn And the man behind the desk Asked me where I'd been "Good question, I'm not sure I know Somewhere 'tween heaven And desolation row"

I travel the world, I take it all in I take lots pictures of all the places I've been Here is the Taj Mahal, here is Stonehenge I have lots of stories I won't bore you to tears Yes, I've gone lots of places over the years They say I am one poor correspondent They say I am too, too hard to find But you can find me I am no mere tourist Don't wear Bermuda shorts Don't have a fanny pack or lodge at family resorts Paddled down the Amazon, stayed in strange ports Caught myself diphtheria Caught myself some typhoid Swatted off tsetse flies they're a must to avoid It's a great big world and I go it alone Don't got no internet, don't got no phone I've seen the seven wonders And crossed the seven seas Went to the wailing wall Got down on my knees Camped in the redwoods under redwood trees I've stayed in hostels Lived on the cheap But when I lay down at night I dream you in my sleep

Tourist Town 04:40
The hotels look like heaven When you live in a hovel All the money pours in And the fat cats dig it with a shovel I work at a tiki bar I serve watered-down drinks To a middle-aged man from Duluth The whole thing stinks It ain't so great When you're not a tourist in a tourist town It's a wretched fate To be not a tourist in a tourist town I get paid by the hour And it's barely enough for me to get by I can't play in the casinos I gotta keep my eye on my money supply I live just 'round the corner Where the flashy lights come to an end You don't want to go there It's not a place that they recommend My car is a clunker Not like the fancy ones for which I valet And when it breaks down I ditch it hoping someone will just tow it away I own one nice shirt And one nice pair of pants I go to work and take my place With all the other worker ants

Circle the wagons and close up all the gaps The boogie-boogie bugle boy is playing sweet ol' taps The bars are letting out and the drunks are on the prowl And even the good cops are throwing in the towel The riverboat captain he knows my fate But everybody else is gonna have to wait Traveling around in a cardboard jacket I hope it doesn't rain on me Traveling around in a cardboard jacket Absolutely sweet Marie The hen is in the hen house counting all her chicks The pugilist is in the ring he's getting all his licks Suddenly a tsunami washes up ashore The wave is so damn big that no one can ignore The riverboat captain, he knows my fate But everybody else is gonna have to wait The man in black has fallen in a burning ring of fire Down, down, down and the flames went higher All the passions that consumed him have burned up his best suit The devil blew on his horn while the angel played his flute The riverboat captain, he knows my fate But everybody else gonna have to wait

So what if we keep rolling along We never seem to get anywhere You are here and I am there And none of us could give a care We are headed for the same destination Every person in every nation Merrily we roll along Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Merrily we roll along Woo-hoo, woo-hoo Who cares if we get what we want Who cares about each passing trend A big old house and a big old car It doesn't matter in the end If you think there's a final reward Be like the rest and climb on aboard What's the sense in your fretting Might as well have yourself a good time Get what you can while you can Before all them final bells do chime Are you feeling a just little bit cheated Well what the hell did you expect Did you think that you would live forever If you did you were incorrect Life is long but time is short Better get it on before you mort

I am stripped down, down to my boots I am stripped down, yeah Down to my roots I got nothin', nothin' but my shoes I got nothin' Nothin’ but the blues Well I’m travelin' light Light as the wind Travelin' light Spin, spin, spin I’m travelin' light Sheddin' my skin T-R-A-V-E-L-I-N I can move 'round, move 'round with ease I can move 'round, yeah Just like a breeze I am free, free as a lark But there is something that’s broken and dark Blink your eye and I'll be gone Blink your eye and I'll have moved along There is nothing left for me here Gotta get my ass in gear I am hopeful, hopeful for the day I am hopeful, milkman’s matinee I hope I see you up above the sky I hope I see you in the sweet by and by
