By the time I got there a storm had hit
Put out the fire in the fire pit
All the hot dogs got tossed into the sand
Things hadn't gone the way I planned
Was the end of the summer, time for one last fling
Wanted to get in what I could get in
To last me until the spring
But the weather did not cooperate
Guess I got there a little too late

Summer ended too soon whether I was ready or not
I packed my stuff and I headed home
Just thankful for the summer I got
It was only noon and the summer ended too soon
There came a typhoon
And the summer ended too soon

A hurricane had come in from the east
The waves and winds had increased
An ice cream truck it got knocked down
Spilling ice cream all over the ground
Cousin Billy got dragged out to sea
Cross one more cousin off the family tree
And aunt Jill was swallowed by a squid
We beat it with our snorkels for all the good that it did
We did not want to ever leave
But mother nature had a trick up her sleeve

Why do the good times go by so fast
Why do the bad times just last and last
Can't I have summer for just one more day
Would it hurt fall to have a minor delay

Surfboards got flung like toothpicks
While surfers got doused like matchsticks
Even the lifeguards had to be lifeguarded
While the shoreline was being bombarded
Watching it all brought a tear to my eye
Or maybe that was rain falling from the sky
Such a drag it was ending like this
Good old summer it's always you that I miss
At least went out with a bang
I bid farewell to that summer thang

I miss you summer, I miss you with all my heart
I haven't been the same since we've been apart
Come back summer, I promise I'll be good
Bring back that summer feeling to my neighborhood
